What to expect

What to expect
During the Bowen Treatment:
- Gentle Touch : A minimum of 2-minute pause/rest is given between a series of gentle moves to allow the body to integrate the message given via the fascia to the central nervous system. Fascia is a thin casing of connective tissue that surrounds and holds every organ, blood vessel, bone, nerve fiber and muscle in place. Bowen Technique facilitates the body in healing itself, with minimal intervention.
- Purposeful Moves :Bowen Technique has a holistic approach, addressing the entire body, by restoring balance via the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS controls over 80% of bodily functions and is very susceptible to external stressors. Most people today live in a constant state of high stress and sympathetic ANS over-stimulation (fight, flight or freeze mode). Healing can occur only after the ANS shifts from sympathetic to parasympathetic dominance (rest, relax and repair mode). Bowen Technique enables that shift.
- Individual Reactions : Reactions to Bowen therapy vary, and you may experience tingling, heat, or pressure. The absence of a reaction doesn't indicate ineffectiveness.
- Listen to Your Body : uring the pause, you may experience tingling heat or pressure which is the signal that the body needs more time to integrate the changes initiated by the moves. Those sensations may be from increased blood flow to that area or energy to meridians.
After the Bowen Treatment:
- The healing process continues for 5 to 10 days, after the treatment. Your body progressively resets itself back to its blueprint. Within the first 3 days after the treatment, is when the changes are most noticeable. Because of the subtle nature of Bowen Technique, and the body's continuing response to it over several days after, other forms of manipulative therapy are discouraged 3 days before and for up to five days after a session, as they may interfere with the efficacy of the Bowen work. In contrast to other hands-on modalities, like massage, physiotherapy, chiropractors where the practitioner imposes correction on the client through manipulation, Bowen Technique facilitates the body in healing itself, with minimal intervention.
- Drink extra water to keep hydrated and to assist any toxins released to be removed from the body.
- Go for a gentle walk to assist the body to realignment and rebalance
- Avoid sitting for longer than 30 minutes at a time for the rest of the day.
- Avoid extremely hot showers or heat/cold packs.
- Avoid the gym or other strenuous exercise for the rest of the day.
- Timing : Schedule your next session 5-10 days later for optimal results.
- Injuries : If you've recently injured yourself, seek treatment as soon as possible to prevent compensation and further complications
- Pregnancy and Asthma : Pregnant women and asthma sufferers may benefit from more frequent sessions.
- Avoid Other Therapies: For best results, avoid other manipulative therapies (massage, physiotherapy, etc.) within four days of a Bowen treatment.
Additional Notes:
- No Imposed Corrections : like massage, physio Therapy and Chiropractor, Bowen Craniosacral Therapy doesn't involve imposing corrections on the body.
- Potential Reactions : You may experience various reactions following the treatment. If you have any concerns, don't hesitate to contact your doctor.
Remember:
- The specific recommendations may vary based on your individual needs and condition.
